We have been sending our best paying manufacturing jobs to other countries since the mid 1970’s and in 1990 we started importing non-immigrant guest workers to take our remaining best paying jobs from our friends and neighbors after first demanding that our own citizens train their replacements before we fired them.
During all of this time we have been told not to worry because they will find similar or better paying jobs and that we can’t find qualified help so we have to import guest workers to fill those empty jobs.
For the better part of 45 years now this has been happening and we are starting to hear from our citizens that they can’t get interviewed or hired even though they have the skills and decades of experience that our employers say they can’t find.
And our own government employment data is showing that the majority of jobs that are being created pay less than what it costs to live in our communities while our best paying jobs are being filled by non-immigrant guest workers.
Right now, in our federal government, 22 of our Texas representatives in Congress have endorsed and approved H.R. 1044 – Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act of 2019 and in our Senate, Senator Cornyn has cosponsored S.386 – Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act of 2019.
If we were truly talking about immigration, I believe all of us are for legal immigration because most of us are descended from immigrants.
But when you read the fine print, you realize that these bills are to help non-immigrant guest workers get green cards and when you really dig into the numbers, you find that in 2018 we had 533,557 legal immigrants and 9,028,026 non-immigrant guest worker visas issued.
So I ask you, where are the bills to protect our friends and neighbors from the one, two punch of Free Trade Agreements sending our jobs to other countries and the tidal wave of non-immigrant guest workers being imported?
I can only find one bill which is titled H.R. 3564 – Fairness for High-Skilled Americans Act of 2019.
Not one single Senator here in Texas has cosponsored that bill and none of our Texas representatives in Congress have submitted anything to protect your friends and neighbors.
Here in Texas, our own government uses your tax payer dollars to hire companies who do not hire American citizens and who do utilize non-immigrant guest workers to fill those jobs.
I do not believe any tax payer funds should be used for any purpose that does not benefit our Texas Workers and our Friends and Neighbors here in Texas.
I believe it is time that we elected a Senator here in Texas who will stand up for our American Born Citizens and our legally immigrated Citizens who recognizes that it is up to them to help maintain the balance between the needs of our businesses and the rights of our citizens.
I would like to hear your thoughts and I could use your support if you think it is time for a change in Washington, D.C.
